The benefits of a healthy lifestyle

There has been an increased awareness of how our bodies could benefit from a healthy lifestyle and it has such a great impact upon people of all ages and ethnicity. The moment you decide to start practicing a healthy lifestyle, positive results will be evident within just a matter of weeks or maybe even days.

Admittedly, healthy living today is a real challenge because we are faced with a variety of processed and junk foods, lack of time for exercise, and a circle of family, friends, and colleagues who couldn’t care less if they’re healthy or not.

But if you really want to start living healthy and you’re determined to pursue it, today is the day. Do not procrastinate because you know very well the benefits that you will get from it. Maybe you told yourself many times, “Today I will start” but before the day is overall of what you said has quickly flown out the window. You completely forgot what you have promised!

Living a healthy life has undeniably extraordinary and long-lasting benefits. Yes, it may take a lot of sweat and hard work, and it’s going to be a struggle but in the end, it’s all gonna be worth it. After all, we can only enjoy a good quality of life if we are healthy and strong. What are the benefits of a healthy lifestyle?

1. A healthy lifestyle not only reduces the risk of several diseases but also the probability of virtually all diseases, thereby increasing the length of one’s life.

The primary cause of most diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, and many more is an unhealthy lifestyle. Sadly, many people die early because they don’t practice healthy living.

According to Mayo Clinic, even though you may understand the relationship between eating specific foods and your risk for heart disease, it can be difficult to undo the years of unhealthy eating habits but your daily lifestyle choices could aid in the prevention of other complications.

Living a healthy lifestyle is very important in older people and it is positively related to reduced risk and a delay in the deterioration in their health.

2. An increased amount of energy.

Don’t we all want to be energized? Let me just say that energy drinks are not the solution.

Here’s the thing, when you live a healthy lifestyle your energy level increases and you do not have to rely on artificial energy boosters. You don’t have to take a bottle of energy drink in order to boost your energy level.

Maintaining healthy living can give you enough energy levels allowing you to participate in more physical activities on a daily basis. When you have lots of energy you are ready to conquer the world, which means you can deal with everyday life without feeling old.

With more energy, you can accomplish more of your goals, and also feel good about yourself

3.  A healthy proper weight.

Don’t we all want to be in the best of shape?

Maintaining a lifestyle of eating a healthy diet that is high in fruits and vegetables and low in fats and sugar can make you lose unwanted pounds and maintain it long term.

When you reduce your weight to within normal limits you can also significantly reduce the risk of heart disease. With the proper weight, that is, you’re not fat but you’re not skinny either, you will feel much lighter, more alive, and energetic and you also have better self-esteem.

Living a healthy lifestyle does not only mean maintaining your weight but shedding whatever excess pounds you may have.

4. A goodnight rest.

Our bodies need a good, peaceful sleep and good sleep comes from living a healthy lifestyle. Whether we are aware of it or not, it’s our own health that’s bothering us and keeping us up. You couldn’t sleep well? Maybe you’re not physically well.

Switching to a healthy lifestyle means you are going to feel much better and you will get a better night rest.

5. Good mental health is another benefit of a healthy lifestyle.

Living a healthy lifestyle improves not only the physical wellness of an individual but mental wellness as well. Individuals that live a fit and healthy lifestyle tend to feel more comfortable with themselves and will not feel uneasy being with other people.

Nowadays, lots of people are suffering from different mental illnesses and lack of good mental health. Low self-esteem is what a lot of us struggle with nowadays, but if you could just change your lifestyle totally, your self-esteem and your mental health will also improve altogether.

Living a healthy lifestyle also elevates your mood, helping you feel happier with more self-confidence, which results in a better quality of life.

6. A healthy lifestyle enables you to achieve financial success.

Being fit and healthy as a result of a healthy lifestyle enables you to work your way to financial freedom and abundance. A healthy person can do a lot more compared to a sickly individual.

Aside from keeping your day job, you can take up part-time jobs, or better yet you can start building your own business. Perhaps you want to be your own boss so you can quit your job and spend more time with your family.

Being healthy keeps you away from expensive medications so you can set aside some cash to invest. There are a lot of investment vehicles available out there such as real estate, stocks, and bonds.

But if what you’re making is just enough” or barely enough” for your daily expenses and maintenance medications then you have nothing to invest.

Conclusion

The human body is like a machine that requires physical activities on a regular basis, proper nutrition, and mental rest and relaxation in order to exist and function at its optimum level.

A healthy lifestyle should be a way of living and not just a temporary fix. Once you get into the habit of maintaining a healthy routine, you’ll be able to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Overall, I get the idea. All good general points. But what specifically would you say constitutes a healthy lifestyle. I’m especially interested in the diet and exercise part of it. Do you have any specific recommendations for foods, eating times or exercises that would be the most useful for losing weight and living healthy?

    1. Hi Dave,

      Thanks again for visiting.
You’re right, what I laid out in this article are all general points on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, that’s because I wanted to tackle the individual aspects in my succeeding posts. When it comes to the recommended foods, please check out this post : https://stayhealthygetwealthy.com/what-are-the-essential-components-of-a-healthy-diet

  2. True to every point. I’ve always been fairly healthy throughout my life but I am currently experiencing sciatica and it’s been a drag for months.

It’s painful to sit and stand for a prolong period so I tend to lie down most the time. Honestly, you can’t get anything done when you are bed ridden like that. I’ve spent thousands of dollars for Chiro treatment but nothing seems to work so far.

Looking for alternative remedy so that I can get my health (and happiness) back.

    1. Hello Cathy,

I can totally relate to what you’re going through because my supervisor suffers from sciatica too and I feel her pain every time it strikes. Prolonged standing or sitting makes it almost unbearable and when she can’t take it anymore, she relies on medications to relieve the pain. On her last vacation, she went to see a Chiro and it made her condition a bit better. That was almost 3 months ago. Her doctor’s advice is for her to lose some weight so as to relieve the pressure and stress on her back.

Just stick to your healthy regimens and hopefully you’ll get better. Try shedding off some pounds if you have to.

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more. Living a healthy lifestyle is very important when it comes to your overall health.

There really does need to be balance in ones life. You can’t focus on somethings and totally neglect one because that one may be causing you some unwanted pain.

There was a point in my life where i was drinking a lot but i was still going to the gym, eating healthy, and doing good in college but i was neglecting my mental health.

You see, i’m a veteran of the US Army and drinking and me just do not mix well. So without going into too much detail i was hurting myself and everyone around me and didn’t even realize it.

    1. Hey Justin, how are you doing?

Living a healthy lifestyle is easier said than done because little did we know that there’s just not one aspect, actually there’s more. But more importantly we are not aware of the benefits we get such as good mental health and increased amount of energy. Alcohol affects our mental health. I know that because my brothers were heavy drinkers. And it’s terrible because it’s really hard to communicate with them when they’re drunk because they’re not thinking straight.

  4. Great article. We have a saying, healthy mind in a healthy body. It is so important to have a way of life that doesn´t hurt our bodies but in this modern society we don’t have time to care for our self, we live on the run, having fast foods or highly processed foods that are very harmful, and if you add sedentary jobs to the mix we have a killer routine. Exercise routines and healthy unprocessed foods are the key for a long and good life.

    1. Hi Ruben, you’re so right! Living in a fast-paced society exposes us to everything that’s unhealthy such as fast foods and processed foods. So we just have to take a step back sometimes and evaluate how we are living our lives. Are we taking care of our body the way we should? Let’s not forget that success starts with staying healthy because we won’t be effective and productive if we are not physically fit and healthy. A balanced routine is very important if we want to live a healthy lifestyle and this includes eating the right kinds of food, having enough sleep, exercise and being stress-free. And of course, we should not forget our spiritual health as it is also an essential aspect of a healthy lifestyle.

  5. This seems like such a basic concept, but it’s sometimes hard to follow. I go through phases where I eat really healthy, and I feel really good. Then something happens, and I go through stages where I start eating junk food again. When I start doing this, I feel lethargic in so many areas of my life. But the junk food just tastes so darn good! I think this happens when I get stressed, I revert to the comfort food. For me, the battle is to be consistent. I will eat well, and do all the right things, but then for whatever reason, I revert back to junk food. I agree with your article in so many ways. I just feel better when I lead a healthy lifestyle. I sleep better and feel better. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Steve, if it makes you feel better, I also satisfy my cravings for junk foods once in a while. Although I strongly advocate a healthy lifestyle I don’t advise that you completely stay away from them. We can still go with some sweets, chips and sodas once in a while. What’s needed is self control and discipline. It could be difficult at first especially if we’re so used to eating junk foods but it eventually gets easier. Think long term and you’ll be motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle because of its benefits.

  6. HI great article I felt as if you were speaking directly to me. I have been saying this for months, oh i will start working out and eating better soon. I also have an issue with sleeping and taking care of my body like i should. One thing i will say , is that i did not realize how being healthy ties into your financial stability. This is something I will be looking into.

    1. Hi Ashley, thanks for weighing in.
Yeah I know, easier said than done. But all it takes are discipline and the proper motivation. Being aware of the benefits of living healthy should encourage us to take really good care of our health.

  7. Wonderful article, thanks for sharing.

There’s a saying: your body is your temple.

Treating your body like a sacred temple is not a nice thing to do but mandatory.

We can only age gracefully when we are cautious about what goes into our body and avoid the harmful toxin household products at the same time.

Your article reminds me of one story I just read on:

Who will you let in your door, if there three old man knocks on the door:
    1. Man represents Wealth
    2. Man represents Happiness
    3. Man represents Health

If your answer is health, the other two tag along with it, but if you choose wealth, you will have none, because you don’t have the health to enjoy the wealth.

    1. Hi Pam, thanks for your comment. You’re so right, our body is a sacred temple that’s why we should watch everything we put into it. Who will will take care of our body if not us. My former boss loved telling her kids, “you are what you eat.” And I agree, if you eat unhealthy foods, you are unhealthy. If you dump junk foods into your body then your body is junk. But if you eat healthy foods then you are healthy. Simple as that!

Aging is something we all have to face but we can choose to age gracefully by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The story you shared is a great motivation for us to always prioritize health more than wealth and happiness. The key to wealth and happiness is health because we will never be wealthy and happy unless we are healthy.

  8. What a great article. This fits very much with the lifestyle that I am pursuing now. I have struggled with my weight for years and would lose and gain constantly. I used to be more active than I have been. 3 months ago, I made the decision, that I have to change, so I started working on my relationship with food and have been eating better and I joined CrossFit and I am feeling so much better. Reading your site has even given me more motivation. Thank you.

    1. Hi Corinne. I’m happy to hear about your current pursuit of a healthy lifestyle and let me say that you’re on the right track. There are a lot of people out there who need to lose weight for health reasons but sadly they do not want to. On the other hand, those who want to lose weight do not do anything about it. I mean, you can repeatedly say you want to lose weight or you want to be be healthier but if you don’t take action then nothing you’ll accomplish nothing.

It takes a lot of discipline and self control especially when it comes to food because let’s admit it, we all love to eat! I wish you the best in the new direction that you have chosen to take. There will be some obstacles along the way especially if you do not have the support of the people you love but remember that in the end no one else stands to benefit but you. Live healthy, be happy!
